Week Four
Sunday No 4 has been and gone - and any visit to the town will see that quite a number of the set pieces have now gone up, and we have installed nearly all of the transformers which feed the system (eleven in total). The torrential rain the night before meant that Chris was unable to join us with his machine; flooded buildings on the farm were are much bigger problem with the lights! However, that meant that three - Roo, David W and Kevin - once again spent the day in the workshops, continuing the repairs to set pieces (especially the Angel and the Tree on the Dentists), washing all the lanterns, and converting an old mains snowman to 24 volts. In fact that time was very well spent. The Robin is still in bits, although the new controller is finished. The Snowmen also have to have some repairs (and improvements, which probably no-one will notice - there is a challenge for you!).
Poor David Grant spent most of the day dealing with more paperwork- it seems never-ending!
We were so lucky with the weather. After the awful night before, we hardly had a spot of rain all day, and just as we finished, down it came again. So all in all, we had a very good day. Next week; the remaining existing set pieces, putting up the lanterns, and hopefully a start on testing. As for new pieces - well two are being built but whether they will be finished in time is very difficult to tell. There have been far more repairs needed this year than we could possibly have imagined, and time will tell.
